    96 SPI Crank shaft

My dads friend has a 96 SPI and he says it needs a new crank shaft. How much would this be to repair and where would he buy one? Thanks.

Shop teardown and rebuild on a motor in the hull would most likely be about 3 hrs plus parts...maybe a little more. These engines are pretty easy to get at and not a whole lot has to be taken off for them to come out. But if you pull it apart, you're going to need a complete gasket kit, probably want to go through the carbs, etc... One thing I learned with my jaunt into the world of Polaris PWC's is never take the shortest path with engine rebuilding. You should spend the dough and do it right.

In fact, if you have any mechanical know how I would honestly just recommend getting an SBT motor and be done with it. Whole new motor with a no questions warranty for maybe 100-200 more than what you're already lookin at.

Well I can't remember what size engine that has, but for the complete motor you're looking at 745 plus shipping. That's for a completely rebuilt motor. Crank, pistons, cyl's, etc...You're talking about spending 360 just for the part...Seems to be more cost effective to replace it. I think you'll end up with a more reliable ski. And no...I'm not an SBT rep.
