Stock motor 06 1300 hitting the limiter at 7450
Stock motor, stock prop. 122 hours. Fairing openings cut out. stock air box gutted(tubing in place) Readings on pet-2100
I'm used to seeing my rpm's in the 7350 range. Last week, i saw 7390 and just kind of blew it off to good air and low humidity.
Yesterday, water was a bit rough. So it was about 3 hours of heat soak before i was able to open it up. right up to the limiter at 7450. It retarded me to 7200, then to 7000. If i let off the throttle a little it would let me go back up. But, if i went WOT it went right back to limiter.
Went out today. Warmed up a few min. First WOT run. right up to limiter. One time i saw a spike from 7410 to 7480 as the limiter kicked in when i squeezed that last 1/8 inch. I think my ski is on crack.
Has anyone seen a stock ski hit the limiter?
What can cause this?
I have a new dynafly 14/20. might be time to put it in. That should put me in the 7100 range.

where is your tach connected?
the pet2100's need to be connected to the 2 lead coming out of the CDI box, not up the front or the readings are way out...

it's wrapped around all the wires 3 times near the electrical box on the black part of the wires. It's very accurate. It's not a tach problem.

I havent looked up under the ski yet, but i have been running the 800 grate all summer. I dont really get on it from a stop with the grate, but i do wave jump. Could i have done something to the wear ring from the 800 grate to cause the rpm increase?
Another time i got a few rocks in the intake as i coasted into shore with motor off. I reached in and got mostthem out before i started ski. Is it possible i may have depitched the stock prop?
Guess taking off the grate and checking the prop and wear ring is the next step?
Pretty funny though, most people are trying to find 100 rpm, im trying to get rid of 100 Guess i dont have to put these VF3's in quite yet.

For best readings on a Pet tach hook up to the middle wire about 2 inches away from the Cdi box.You should be able to turn the dynafly for better speeds.

My next trip out i'll run a wire to #2 alone and see if there is any change in the readings.
I can feel the limiter kick in. It's subtle, the ski doesnt get all crazy bouncy like it sounds when you over rev on trailer.
I wonder how far in rpm's this motor can go before kaboom w/o the limiter.

Have you checked your prop and wear ring for damage yet?I would start looking in that area.

You should be in the 7100rpm range.

I didnt check when i got home. But, i will take grate off and check before i go out again.
I haven't taken the pump out of this ski yet(it's still a virgin) But if i go that route to check for damage i may as well put the dynafly in since im there.
Can dings in a prop from rocks cause rpm increase? I haven't gotten any increase in speed in the last 2 weeks. Just 100 more rpm.
I think the stock prop is pretty maxed at 70 mph even with jim's plate.
