2001 GP1200R rear cyl seizure problem. (2nd time)

Hello guys, I am a newbie runaboat and PV nikasil motor owner.

I usually ride SJ's but now I need help with my GPR.

I was introduced to this web forum by a guy nicked "ramnj" at PWCTODAY's forum.

Pics says it all... second time I have the same problem.... a very deep seizure and NIKASIL damage.

A lot of problems was claimed by other guys like: Overworked cyl since the only PV working was the one that was damaged (other 2 wasn't), excess of clearence, carb hesitation,....

This guy went up talking about crank bearing.. I tried to find it here but didn't get.

    Any input is welcome.

    tks

I can tell U that when it first seized I maybe had a seal failure... So it got brand new seals when this happened.

It is a good start to check other air leak issues.

    Welcome Gera,
I hope we can help you with your problem. You will get bunches of questions and opinions. It would help if you can provide as much detail as possible.

    Year/Boat?
Hours on engine since last failure?
When did it happen? What were you doing?
    Water in hull?
Rear coupler plastic cover in place?
    Aftermarket flame arrestors? Water socks?
    Oil Injected or Premix?
Fresh gas? How long in tank?
Have the carbs been inspected or rebuilt?
Has the engine been pressure tested?

    Year/Boat? 2001

Hours on engine since last failure? Rebuilt when 70hs. ptoblem again after 5 hs. I don't ride this PWC toomuch.

When did it happen? What were you doing? I had recently swap the acc pump and install 110/120 jets... later changed to 125.

    Water in hull? NO. ANY.

Rear coupler plastic cover in place? YES

Aftermarket flame arrestors? Water socks? STOCK.

Oil Injected or Premix? Oil injected. I was running premix too. I just lend it to a friend and he didn't add oil. But he rode 15mins and it doesn't look lubrification problem.

Fresh gas? How long in tank? FRESH..

Have the carbs been inspected or rebuilt? YES. I will re-check it.

Has the engine been pressure tested? NO.

The only modification is the IMPELLER.

I will repeat: When this happened front and 2nd cyl PV wasn't working because a pin came out.

We are very confused. This engine is a little hard to work since U don't have to much acess to it without disassemble everything. I am an YAMAHA fan but I am really missing my 1999 GP1200 that never failed.

I am really in love with this web site. U guys are so technical and helpfull.

    thanks,

    Gera

Gera, that sure looks and sounds like an air leak. I'd say if you put it back together like that again, it will just burn up another piston.
