New to Polaris and the forums...

Just wanted to say thanks for all the info put out here. I recently picked up a 1996 Polaris Hurricane 700 from a friend and found my way to the forum here looking for maintenance and performace upgrade information. Ive been using the search quite a bit, along with the tech section. One question I do have, Is there a primer or where to start for performance mods on the 96 Polaris Hurricane? Are some mods more beneficial or detrimental to long term performance than others?

    Thanks in advance,

    Bruce

Hi Bruce, WELCOME to the Green Hulk Forums!!!

What are you looking for top spped or acceleration?
It seems most of the Canes porpoise at higher speeds.
Higher compression domes are probably a good stsrt.
There are a couple of twin pipe set ups floating around as well.

Thanks for the welcome... Id really like to modify the low to mid range power band increasing the torque and acceleration. Ive also been looking at/for stability mods as it seems a lil bit squirrely in the mid range.

    Welcome to the Hulk!

A few Hurricane owners have extended the ride plate, and reported that it really helped with the high speed stability, and reduced the tendency to porpoise the nose up and down at higher speeds.

There was a Hurricane project thread by z00m, and another one by morg15t

Thanks for the link to the projects and the other stuff listed. Im definitely gonna have to look into the extended ride plate, along with some other mods. We had the ski out on the lake yesterday and I dont know what performance to expect from a bone stock 'Cane, or how accurate it is, but the digital readout was tellin us +/- 48mph @ 6100RPMs..... The porpoising thing is definitely an issue to be corrected, and believe I could get a few more mph out of the ski if we could keep it in the water....The conditions on the lake were good, bout 1-2' wind blown surface chop...Definitely wantin to tighten up the steering as it seems that the overall adjustment to the right side has more play in it than left, resulting in the ski wanting to throw you when the bars are turned complete right....

    Once again thanks....
