    Broken Pump Shoe

well I have had some cavatation lately. Took a look at the shark fins all are okay. But front of the pump shoe is gone. I installed 08 ride plate worked on by jim. So no loss of grate. three real mounting holes no inserts I read where vern had used carbon fiber to repair this area. I sent pm just a little while ago. Any pictures or advise would be great. while I deceide how I want to proceed. New pump shoe or repair with carbon fiber.

    Thanks
    Scott

No pictures just a piece missing just above the bolts holding the grate on.

I believe Vern actually just reinforced his pump shoe with the carbon fiber.

This is a picture of my broken pump shoe.

I had the same thing happen to me in the spring which was the last straw for me. I have a closed loop 07 and under plate that i'll be welding a 1/4" aluminum bar across the front(this is on an RXT) and drilling and tapping holes into to attatch the front 2 of the rear intake grate bolts to. I'll have to modify the pump shoe to make it work but nothing that should decrease the strength. Someone needs to cast a pump shoe!

Do you (or anyone) know what causes this?

Not for sure, but possibly the water is getting under the front edge of the pump shoe causing it to break.

My ski ran OK with it broken, it just scrubbed off 4-5mph on the top end.

From everyone that I have talked to it seems to be the most common in the skis over 80 mph.

I agree with that completely. With all the items BRP has introduced you would think that they would offer a cast pump shoe.
