    RXP Hi Speed Grate Testing

I did some searching on this, but did not come up with much so I thought I would throw this out for input ...

On RXPs that are running near 80mph or more, has anyone tested different intake grates? Stock vs Riva vs R&D vs Worx ... Or has anyone modded any of these grates for additional speed? I imagine at higher speeds the RXP is getting too much water in the tunnel and that the optimal/modded grate would add some speed. Just wondered if anyone had done any testing on an 80+mph RXP with different grates ...

I did reworked mine RIVA grate, like this!
Im very sure it will increase topspeed and prevent cavitation (a touch)
But sorry, i have no resulds

I thought I remember Dan (JD1) saying a long time ago that above 90mph he was running a Worx grate (probably modified) and the 79mm nozzle. I could be wrong on that. 90mph is a long ways from 80mph though.

Elb, I did the same, but I think I lost rpms and possibly speed ... I need to run a little less pitch too, but ... I think as our speeds go up, we need less help getting water in the pump, and doing what you and I did will help takeoff and cavitation but so far it seems to push rpms down 100 or so. I may have a chance to swap grates and test one with different mods and see what happens, but I think our biggest problem at 78+ mph is too much water, and modding the grate and grate angle or trying different grates that restrict the water at high speed will help our top speed a little.

Rex, I think I remember the same ...

ok so if you reference this side profile, comparing with the kiddy sketch...which side gets the sharp knife edge?

You want to round the bars on the bottom (water side), knife-edge the top (ski side) ... like an airplane wing. Round where the water hits it, knife-edge where the water leaves it, so it leaves it cleanly.
