i blew my 951!!
i finally got to do a compression test on my 98 xpl that i have been having problems with.
mag - >120
pto - 0 thats no typo, i mean zero. didn't even make the needle move.
so i am assuming this means i need to do a topend rebuild right?
i have no idea how to do this so is there a step by step somewhere? but first and foremost, do i need to pull the motor to do this or can it be done in the ski? how about the best place to buy a rebuild kit?
if it cant be done in the ski i might just pay the seadoo dealer to do it. what would be a fair price for a dealer to charge for this so i dont get ripped?

mag side 120psi
pto side zero psi
heres both mag on the right pto on the left
as you can probably see, there is a good size gap between the piston and wall on the pto side at the bottom. it closes up need the top.

Looks like it seized from lack of fuel or oil. Not too bad from what I can see...which isn't much. Can you get a more detailed pic of the cylinder walls of the seized piston? If you look the aluminum smeared on the sides is where the piston melted. That's what I need to see.
Can you feel any scratches with yourt fingernail?

i can feel scraches on both. they are smoothed over but they are there. the pistons move freely. i can push them down with one finger.
its hard to get good pics. i have find a camera with a flash on it. the whole flashlight with the iphone thing isint working to well.

Before you jump in and just do a top end. You need to seriously think about what kind of crap ran through the bearings on the crank and are th rod ends damaged from heat... I dont like doing topends because its hard to put a garanty on an engine in that condition
