If I had $5000 to spend......

    Hello guys,

I currently have a 2001 xpl and I am thinking about selling the ski this spring in order to get a GPR. I just had a few questions for you yamaha gurus.

    1. What year model would you recommend for under 5k?
    2. How much money would it take to see at least 70mph?
    3. Are there free mods or cheap mods you can do to greatly improve handling, accel, etc?

I am somewhat hesitant about buying a 1200 gpr as I have a friend that has at least a stage 1 that cant beat me. The thing that really concerns me is the piss poor acceleration on these things, but i'm sure there are easy fixes. Someone please direct me in the correct direction.

    Thanks,
    Robert

For $5K you should be able to pick up a GPR with mods allready hitting 70mph. When you do if you want better holeshot pick up a set of Fercho VF3 reeds & spacer (about $525, exspensive but well worth it) and do the Fercho Jet Works Mod(about $80) your self.

I see your also from Texas, are you coming to MB2 ? It would be a good GPR experiance for you. You will learn alot about GPR's and you will be able to see how they stack up.

With the right parts a GPR hits like a freight train, there is no Sea Doo that is even close! Expecially when you get above 70 mph, that is where the GPR really shines.

Come to Mud Bug anyway, because there are lots of us that have never actually met each other in person - so no one would know who you were.....and lots of us will be introducing ourselves for the first time. I say come by yourself and meet everyone and make tons of new friends.

Bring something to ride, and it doesn't have to be fast to have a good time there.

    1. What year model would you recommend for under 5k?

    2000 to 2002 GP1200R (or maybe pay the extra and get a 2003 or 2004 GP1300R)

    2. How much money would it take to see at least 70mph?

You can get to 68 or so for $750
R&D gp1200r or GP1300R ride plate, use GP800R intake grate and add a nujet 6.5 impeller

    3. Are there free mods or cheap mods you can do to greatly improve handling, accel, etc

Thanks for the advice guys. Would it be worth buying the first year of the 1300 r? Is there a big enough difference for the price? The 2003 gpr is still carb correct?

03 was the first EFI. 03-04 have power valves . 05-06 EFI with no power valves.

Ok, sorry for all the Q's. Do the EFI models have the potential to be as fast as the carbs? Say if I where to just want to keep the stock pipe and carbs/stock EFI but do all other mods what would be the better route? I like to have great acceleration and I'd be happy with a top end around 72.

    Thanks,

    RObert

Opinions vary on the EFI boats.

I run a non-ported EFI boat, currently at 77 mph with "bolt on goodies", VF3 reeds, Fercho/Kerry handling and 93 octane. I know of SEVERAL EFI boats in the 70-72 mph range. EFI is, in my opinion, more responsive and very constistant/maint free.
