    Value of SHO engine cover

After reading of doublekid's corrosion problems, I pulled the plastic cover off mine and found some also. Not as bad but I could see where the plastic engine cover had been blocking my Salt-away spray. I can't see where it is anything but cosmetic except it may protect the wiring and plugs on top of the engine a little. However, water can still splash up there and it is not strong enough to stop anything from falling on the engine.

So at this point, I am planning on leaving the cover off so I can spray the top of the engine and the accessories better. Anyone know of any problems?

I had the same thought, just leave it off. Does it direct engine heat down? Probably not, it just gets heat soaked too.

Give it a shot and let us know your results.

I've had mine off to take a look. Gave it all a good spray with silicone.
Put it back on as I think it looks better on than off-----could not make a difference though either way.

The cover does make a difference to me.
I ride in a heavy salt water environment, and when i come home after a days riding i find dried up salt on the cover and not under it, to me, it helps protect the engine, because salt falls on it through the seat and dries up there and doesn't go on the engine, i still take the cover off an wash under it and spray it down.

Water can get through the seals of the seat when riding in rough water. The cover helps in protecting the motor and it's electrical wiring and components from getting sprayed. It is just held in place by two screws which can easily removed in order to clean the area under there which I do every time after I ride. Problem solved. Besides, that thing makes the motor look much better. People who have asked to see the motor says it looks like it belongs on a German car.

    Which would you rather see?

    This mess?

    Or this?

As said two screws on top to remove it-----PLUS loosen the 4 Allen head screws on the side and slide to get it off.

Plus, if you leave it on, you can sometimes get the more gullible inquirers to believe it's a V8...

I don't have 4 allen screws at the side. Just 4 rubber stops.
