Riva's Stage 2 results!
water temp 82
gas level 5 bars
1st run 72.8 mph @ 7800 rpm but could not hold it due to porpoise.
2nd run 72 mph average @ 7750-7800 rpm
after a few runs and the motor was hot the best speed I could maintain was 71 at 7600 rpm. After checking the oil It reads 1/2 inch above the top bend when hot but if I crank it on the trailer and let it run it reads right in middle of the bottom and top bend. I know the porpoise is a factor in my top speed but should I pull out some of the oil? Also the ski idles at 2400-2600 rpms now which is way too high, what could be the cause of this?

Look for an air leak. That's what usually causes a high idle.

Your oil is definately too high. When hot on the water the level should read in the middle of the two bends (i keep mine a little below half) That is robbing you of RPM's!
Your idle is way too high as well. Did you remove the throttle cable from the throttle body when you unbolted your intake? I would check the adjustment of the cable if you did and I would also make sure that you have a tight seal on your intake manifold. Did you put the O ring on the stock intercooler blockoff?

I did not remove the cable from the throttle body but that was the first thing I checked and its fine, I also looked for any vacuum lines but didnt find any thing unplugged. I guess I will check the manifold next, I did unbolt it and pull it up when fixing the wire on the oil sending unit.

When you get the idle and oil level corrected you may want to have the prop checked if you are running the one that came with kit. The prop I got with mine was so much out of specs just getting it to what it was supposed to be I gained 250 RPM's and 8 tenths in speed.I will now have it repitched to try for more speed.

I pulled out some oil this morning, still cant find whats causing the high idle, when I firt crank it up its 2400 rpm but when its hot it goes up to 2800 rpm. What speed/rpm are you getting with your kit?

I didn't detach the throttle cable either when I popped the throttle body out to deal with stock IC removal. Perhaps you should check to make sure the throttle body is seated when you re-installed.
Sometimes when I would work on my cars and I'd get something like this after a mod install, I'd reset the computer by detaching the negative battery cable for a few minutes. Probably not the case here, but who knows - you might get lucky and it sure is a lot simpler than tearing down and missing a lot of time on the water.

I pulled the throttle body again, checked the intercooler blockoff and found no problems
