Gauges 99 XPL
Hey, i picked up my 1999 XPL today and the battery was dead. I charged it up outside the boat. Put it in and get the 2 beep.My question is, when the key is on are the gauges supposed to work right away? I need to do a top end rebuild, but when i put the key in, get the 2 beeps it doesnt seem like the trim gauge moves with the trim. Do the gauges only work when the machine is running?

my 98 xpl gauges work when the lanyard is connected (after the 2 beeps). the vts should work after this also so try pluging in and playing with the trim to see if it moves. watch both the nozzle and the gauge.

Unplug the two brown wires from the VTS housing (back of boat) that feeds the gauge and power it up. If the gauge goes full up the VTS is bad, if no response the gauge is bad (or not getting power).
BTW...momentarily pushing the start-stop button with no lanyard energizes the gauges for 5-10 seconds and cycles the bilge pump. This is to check fuel level without having to install the lanyard. Gauges stay powered up constantly (and instantly), if lanyard is installed. That is...if the lanyard and post are working properly.
