    Question for Mechanics

My wife's car skipped 2 oil changes.... I know, my bad...

Seems like it can have some sludge in there. The dipstick was all the way down therefore no one wanted to do the oil change. I put some oil in and its not leaking or anything.

I was told to put in a quart of Transmission Fluid in the oil to clean up the sludge, let it run for a week or so and then change the oil.

    Is this safe?

That damn commercial that talks about sludge. Don't worry about it, years ago, yes. With today's much improved oils and engines that just run cleaner it's nothing to worry about. My GF's 06 CRV recommended oil change interval is 10,000miles! I would not run trans fluid to clean it up, especially not for a WEEK! That's from the old days. The oils today have enough detergents to keep it clean.

How many miles did it go? Don't panic, this 3,000 mile BS that the oil change place tells you is horse crap. I would just change the oil NOW. Don't run trans fluid in it, could do damage? Were you running synthetic?

It went like 10K miles actually....But it burned the oil pretty good cuz the dipstick read nothing.

Not synthetic....Regular Castrol I think it was....

As long as your indication of a needed oil change wasn't the "OIL" light you're OK. Like Voodoo said, the 3,000 mile oil change is BS.

I know, I rarely do it every 3K miles. I put synthetic on my truck and do it when the oil life is 0% which is about 6K miles....On her car I use regular....

Run Synthetic and never worry again!

You can safely run 10K to 15K miles when you're running full synthetic.
All of the major brands are good, little difference between them.

The attached pix is the inside of my BMW at 190K miles running Mobil 1.
Burns zero oil, same performance as when new........

Now that is amazing, synthetic the only way to go if you keep your cars. I lease though so they get the cheap shit.
