    717 motor swap

I am going to replace the motor in the 97 GTS. My latest compression readings are now showing less than 80lbs, I do not know if rebuilding is an option, I can not get 5 of the head bolts to turn to open it up, I think she was a salt water baby,,, This was a learning lesson, so a core she is not I do not want to spend a bunch more on it. can't sell it the way it is.

I am wanting to know if I need to do anything special swapping in another 717,, this GTS has the D.E.E.S. will that matter stator wise if I swap in another complete motor and use my electronics box.

now to find a donar motor,

    thanks Doug

Look on ebay for a motor so people sell them for about 600 with a 300
deposit and they send you an engine and you send them yours after you
    swap everything over.

Most parts for your ski can be found cheap on ebay/craigslist

To get the bolts loose try hitting them not to hard but hitting them ith a
hammer, they have lock tite on them and sometimes the sudden jolt for
the hammer helps, if you get them backed out some of the way spray
some WD40 or other lube in there.

    thanks for the reply,,,

these bolts that are stuck will move...... they are just going to twist off,,, I have done enough different engine work over the years to know that feel,,

Bottom line I think this thing lived in ocean runs,,, I am amazed at how much corrosion there is when I pulled the water lines off the head.

I am going to look to ebay or ???? for a simple swap in motor..

    Thanks

look at riverratbob on e-bay. he has a couple motors, and does top quality work. I just picked up a 717 and 800 motor from him. If you cant find any motors pm me and i'll give you his number.
