Post 1995 Wave raider Deluxe Questions

I just got a 1995 Waver Raider Deluxe and took it out over this past weekend.
I an at 185 pounds and had almost a full tank of gas and it did 57 on the speedo,Is that good?

The guy i bought it from said that the engine was just rebuilt not to long ago but it idles kind of rough and dies at idle but once you are on the gas it does not hesitate, any reasons why?

Also the steering seems loose you have to turn the bars almost all the way before it will turn,is there any way to tighten it up?

And should the nozzle have play in it or be tight when moving it by havd?

Any help i can get would be appreciated
    Thanks Patrick

Well the speedo is off by anywhere from 5-10 mph or more. The best way to get accurate speed is to buy a gps from walmart or most outdoor stores. The $99 garmin etrex is very good for just simple speed readings. Is it the 760 or 701. You should be in low 50's on top speed. With the idle it seems as though the idle screw is just off. They probably set it for idle out of water. Under load the engine needs more idle to keep running. Best way to check the steering is to get behind the ski and manually turn the nozzle and watch the steering bars. If you can move the nozzle without the handle bars moving then it needs adjusting. It very simple with just a few bolts. It will have some jiggle but shouldnt move without the handles moving.....hope this helps......thanks for saving another waveraider also...

    Cool RE

I am not sure if it is a 701 or 760,is there any way to tell a difference it does have duel carbs if that helps. This is my first ski and i dont know much about them so i will most likely be on here alot..I also have a question about the flush kit i will post a pic so maby you can tell me if it is done right. I checked the steering and the nozzle does not move without the bars moving i guess its just the way it handles.I will try the idle screw and let you know. Also it was changed over to premix but all they did was kink the oil line with a zip tie is there any way to do that cleaner without spending alot of $$?
    Thanks Patrick

that would be the 760. i believe...Thats a cheap way to do it and will not hurt anything unless you have oil in the tank and then it will be a mess. They make a block off plate that only cost like 20 bucksss

What Big raider said! and if you need absolute confirmation Pull the F/A cover and see how many mounting holes are at the top of the carb! the 760 uses sbn 44 with 4 mounting holes and the 700 uses 38 mm mikunis with 3 mounting holes! see pic for the 760 carb
