    Brand comparisons between PWC manufacturers?

Hello all. I'm new to the forums, trying to do some research about various PWC brands and models. I live in the DFW area of Texas, and I'm interested in buying a used PWC very soon. I'm trying to get an mental picture of how the PWC brands compare to one another.

I know the five big players in the PWC market are Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, Seadoo, and Polaris. Although, I understnd Polaris no longer makes PWCs. Correct?

How would you rank the 5 brands in terms of....
    1) Pure performance potential?
    2) Pure Price? (highest to lowest)
    3) The performance to dollar ratio? (highest value to lowest value)
    4) Reliability? greatest to worst?
    5) Parts availability? (easiest to hardest)

To be a bit more clear about myself, I'm looking to get into a general purpose PWC for around $3000 or less. I want it to be powerful and racing oriented, but not necessarily 100% race built, as I'm not completely sure what I want to do with it yet. I plan to ride it on lakes mostly. What brands and models should I be looking at for my initial purchase?

I would like a girl that looks beautiful, makes millions, does what she is told to do, cooks like racheal ray, and is crazy in love with me.

    For $3000.

I don't have unrealistic expectations. Obviously whatever I get will be used and not top-of-the-line...

    Ok. Ill be serious now...
First of all welcome to the hulk!!!
How old are you? Are you mechanically inclined?
You could pick up an older yamaha gpr 1200 for somewhere around $3000...
this would be a good starter ski if youre young and can fix it...
    good luck..

Somewhat mechanicaly inclined, but I don't own many expensive tools.

I'm eyeing a 2000 Polaris SLX (1200cc)... how would that compare to the Yamaha GRP 1200?

there are alot more gpr's out there than polaris. Parts are eazy to get and they are pretty quick... Polaris doesnt make PWC anymore so they arent gonna be able to help you out... If this is your first ski... get a common ski.

I disagree with the above statement and think you can get some of the best support and parts for your Polaris PWC here at our Polaris section, check it out.
I would also say if you want a lightning quick boat, one that handles the bouys and is easy to repair and modify (not needed for most) and fits in your budget check out the Polaris PRO785.
