    97-98 SLXH vs. 99-2001 SLX?

What are the key differences between these 2 models, and which one is more desirable from a performance standpoint?

Obviously, the SLXH has the 1050cc Polaris motor, where as the SLX has the 1165cc motor. Which of these motors is better, and why?

As far as the hull goes, does the SLXH have a different hull from the later SLX?

    hull

same hulls, the 98 has a different prop and port timing which hits good down low,the 98 sooner or laters gonna need a stator kit,the seat setup is junk and nothing but trouble,99 was changed,go with 2000 slx and pass on the 98

I don't think there was a 1997 SLXH. There was a 1997 SLX 785 Pro, but that is a Pro - very different machine.

1998 SLXH was renamed SLX for 1999-2001. Engine size was 1050 for 1998+1999, 1200 for 2000+2001.

The 1050 engine is rated for 120HP, but properly tuned the 1050 machines don't seem to be appreciably slower than the 1200 (actually 1165cc).

The SLX/SLXH hull (1998 onwards) has flatter bottom than the SL hulls. Faster top speed, but less happy in choppy and rough water.

1998 was the only year for the two piece seat, which seems to be a sore point. I think the one piece seat from certain other model years can be retro-fitted.

There are possibly some differences in carburetion, fuel tank capacity, and styling between the 1998 and the later years.

The SLX is considered the most playful of the Polaris 2 seater hulls, and has many of the upgrade parts as standard (entended jet pump and ride plate).

I had a 98 slxh and the pump tunnel cracked. I believe they reinforced this area in 99 and on later years.

    In 97 ,there was a SL900 (purple)(58-60mph) and SL1050(60 -62mph).Both had good performance,similar to SLXH or SLX.
My friend rode my SL1050 and said it was faster than his SLXH.
Most days my 1050 will run close to my friends 01 SLX

    slxh

like i said the slxh has a different set of cylinders with different port timing,it hits better down low and runs a skat style prop like the sl1050 does but the sl1050 was a higher rpm turning motor 6900 rpm vs the 6600 of the slxh.the hull bottoms are the same except for the strakes may have been changed a little, same ride plate for the slx(except pro)from 95 to 01.

Did the '97 SL1050 have the extended pump and ride plate?

Is the '97 SL1050 essentially an SLXH without the name, other than the engine porting?

97 sl1050 and 98 up slx same bottom hull, the 97 used the older sl and pro 785 top deck.the 98 and up used a different top deck.the 97 had the extended pump setup.the 97 was a boost port motor and designed for the higher rpm's.the 98 had a one year only set of jugs,in 99 the 1050 went to a different jug and 00 went to 1200.98 had a skat prop and 99-00 ran a nujet prop and 01 runs the msx prop
