New PWC Business
If you were to startup or purchase a PWC related business what would it be?
What would make it different?
I wanna hear.
Here's one I did real quick:
Business PlanNot a full service shop, not a complete retailer, and not a general rental fleet.
3 main channels - Rentals, Retail, and Riding
None of that pay $50 per hour to ride a weak ass ski around a circle.
Rentals available to licensed riders only. Rent the best of the best.
3 hours $200
Full day $350
3 day $700
1/2 price for members
Carry full line of industry exclusive brands.
MSRP to non-members, 15% above cost to members
With the group rides we will put together everything as a package deal and each ski will get meals, lodging, safety service, etc.
Same rates as rentals. We show you where and how.
Join a group that matches your interest. Members get discounts, safety service, promos, club house, etc.
Want to learn how to ride, jump, ride freestyle, basic maintenance, race, navigate, etc. ??? We'll have an expert staff member teach you.
Offer basic maintenance services (oil changes, tune up, winterize, storage, etc)
Safety Service = 4 place trailer, tow skis, AquaWrench, etc
Sport Ports with marina services
What do you think ???
Feel free to add or alter.

remember the services that require maint lights to be re-set, and codes to be read/erased also require the use of diagnostic tools exclusive to manufacturers.
I have wanted to do mod, repair aspect of this sport but the right opportunity has yet crossed my path...
a place to go to that actually stocks apparel, Vests/gloves etc, spark plugs and maybe some props/wear rings would be ideal...

give me an hour or two when i get home.... i will have something decent posted. i have an entire business plan that can be tweaked to the pwc industry.... it was my thesis for my bachelors. i "opened" a performance shop in florida...
i had it spec'd with insurance, staffing, loans, utilities, payroll, inventory.
your quick 3 paragraph "business plan" will turn into a 122 page nightmare. but the more detail you put into, the more likely you are to get approved for a bank loan.
and if you are going to do this, ideal location would be in florida or a warmer climate because the short riding season up here is not gonna be sustainable year round income....

With all of the economy garbage going on, is this a good time to try this??
Plus, I can tell you all of the renters down here use the Yamaha VX, and rent them for $75 an hour. Your plan is cheaper, with better hypothetical equipment.

thats cause yamaha VX have relatively low maintenance and will last 100s of hours. High performance skis have much more wear and tear, more expensive and frequent maintenance, and not to mention premium fuel.
Think of seadoo supercharger clutches, GPR cranks, etc.
Although its a novel idea (kind of like renting exotic cars) it might not be as profitable
There is some good ideas up there but for NJ with only 3 real "summer riding" months it is going to make it very difficult as well

That's what I was getting at. I couldn't see how he could rent skis like he is talking about for that price...

3 Hour Rental
250, RXT, RXP, SHO $300
Modded Skis at $125 per hour
The rental skis will have a lower insurance vig than the VX Deluxe non-license circle riding carney.
Shop will have manufacturer's proprietary equipment with trained personnel.
You could steal some bayfront Jersey land right now.
The seasonal business, storage, putting em, taking em out, etc just has to cover the monthly nut.
Not looking to do what can be the most abundently profitable. Just something that would enjoy doing, would have a place in the market, and if it does anything more than get by I'd be happy that it pays off the waterfront land.
Thanks for the feedback. Keep it coming and post your ideas also.
Looking for some out of box concepts.
Would also add a dock with 87 and premium.
Open up the clubhouse to the public on summer saturdays for food , entertainment, etc.

Well, it sounds like a great place even if you are not a renter!..
How about a restaurant to go with? And docks specifically for PWC? (The floating deals) That would be way cool....
the VX Deluxe non-license circle riding carney.

I have alot of fun with them.
I like to go on their bouy course and race circles around the renters. Sometimes the spotter will cut across and chase waving me away.
I put my hand to my ear in a wave in motion like Hulk and then jet.
yeah the whole perimeter would be the block cube dock type sport port stuff
Keep the clubhouse sacred cause restaurant would be a headache and it would go better with a full service pwc marina.
