No matter what I try the SS grate is always slower.
If it wasn't such a expensive item it would be at the bottom of the lake.
I havent water tested mine yet, so i cant comment on speed #`s but seeing how alot of people got good results just from bolting them up and grinding a little off the shoe and others are struggling with fitment and speed #`s it would only seem logical that there is inconsistants in the grates,i dont remember but was`nt there more than one batch made?i know i got one of the first 50 and mine fits pretty good but like i said i havent put mine in the water yet and since i dont have another 800 grate or ever had one for that matter i will have to compare it to my 1200.

Both grates I purchased were in the first batch infact I believe I was 3rd on the pre-order list.
You may think you have a good fitment but looks mean nothing. I thought I had mine all shimmed correct and perfect and guess what both grates I have are 1.5+mph slower on 2 different boats.
If you are going from a stock grate to the SS you will be happy for sure. If you get a chance to test SS VS R&D 800 you should do it.
On water testing is the only real test !!!!!!!!

Hope your grate is a good one.

    ss grate

Well!!! maybe i spoke to soon about how well mine fits. it mounts flat to the bottom of the hull and shoe but the rear scoop is not level with the scoop on the shoe like my 1200 grate is,,when i mount the grate the rear scoop is almost even on the left side but as you look to the right it gets higher and higher the farther right you look.almost 1/8th of an inch difference,i know this cant be corrected with a shim and i really dont want to grind that much off of mi grate to match the shoe.does anyone have a clue how to correct this or will this hurt anything.thanks jeff

I think we need a stainless 1200 grate that won't buck someone off at 80

What are you doing for the 800 R&D? How are they different from the R&Ds? Speed?

I installed a 3rd bar and remove material from other areas to compensate so that it does not cavitate. Back to Back testing showed .3-.4 tenths & 30-40 rpm gains over a stock unmodded 1200 grate.
