Symptoms of a loose prop bolt?

Today I was out riding and something weird happened. I came off a plane, idled for a minute, then tried to get back up and it wouldn't. The motor would just free-rev and ski barely go anywhere. It acted just like something was blocking the intake grate. I checked it and it was fine. We tried blow water backwards through the pump and that didn't help either.

After towing it home, I disassembled the pump to find the impeller bolt had backed out. Any idea why this would cause the symptoms above? Or is there something else wrong with my ski?

Sounds like my carbon ring failure, except you would have had 1/2 hull full of water when you got back to land.

Bill, it was the prop main bolt that goes through the bearings.

Guys, based on your feedback, I think what was going on was the driveshaft was flopping around, opening up the seal faces and that's why it wouldn't go anywhere. It was a huge air leak into the pump.

Check your prop threads...I did that once and I had striped the threads.. Exact same symptoms, I thought I had done the same but Riva found that the problem was the 15/20 was just striped out enought to spin.

Same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. By the time I got back the the pump shaft needed placed from the impeller floppin around so much the threads were gone, luckily the threads in the impeller were still OK.
