    96 XP causing grief

I'm looking for a little insight. My XP fires rigt up. I let it warm up a little then off to play. the ski revs up runs fine 15-30 seconds then RPM's drop off to a max of about 2000 (no tach) almost seems like running on 1 cylinder and will not go past this point. it idles fine just won't rev. If I hold it pinned or play with the throttle for a few minutes it will come alive and be fine for a while but then it will act up again and I will go through the same thing again. If I shut it down and restart it will fire right up and allow a partial rev but then back to limited revs. Carbs are clean, fuel lines are new. Any help would be great. Also when running at the good times it doesn't rev up crisply but a little bit slower than I would like.

The rectifier is bad. Located in the front gray box. Three thick yellow and one thick red wire coming from it. Disconnect the red to confirm, take it for a short ride and the symptoms should completely disappear. Don't ride too long as the battery is not charging while the wire is disconnected.

I just got back from the lake and it seems that with the rectifier disconnected it runs fine. I guess tomorrow I will order a new one and hopefully have it by next weekend. Thanks 96XPSS you are the man of the hour.

Wow, I spent 8 hours taking apart both my carbs and replacing all the fuel lines/filters on Friday. I head out on the river today and the good news was that I gained 5mph on gps 57.8mph. Bad news was that I had the same damn issues I was having before all the work. The EXACT and I mean EXACT same issues as the OP. Thanks again 96XPSS for the diagnosis, I am going to look at a 96xp parts ski tomorrow.
