    250x steering play

Anybody looked into this? Is it in the cable, the end's,steering shaft bushing's? Just seem's excessive, the other kawi I owned (1100 stx) didn't have this much play and turning effort was much less also. Any info ?

Seems to be the case for all of them.

I've seen a thread for a fix for this on here , i think it says if you remove a couple of washers or something it's easily sorted . But yeah mine does it too, hopefully gonna get umi bars instead though

Slacks in all steering components add up and it becomes an excessive play. That's the way it is on 250X. Also, the 1100 didn't have a tilt mechanism and had a completely different steering set up. The turning effort would be less on the 1100STX as well because it has a shorter steering cable (less friction) and has less jet pump thrust, 803 lbs vs. 1526 lbs of 250X, you have to overcome.

Just to be on the safe side inspect all of the components you mentioned. You may find someone missed something when it was built or worked on before. If not, then you know for sure its a design flaw.

    steering play

Meengreenman , your quite right about tolerances stacking up ,and the differences due to thrust, but even when you back off the throttle (less thrust) effort is still heavy. Cable length shouldn't be much (about 1 ft).I think it has a lot to do about leverage ratio between steering arm and nozzle arm. Shortening steering arm will reduce effort ,but handlebar travel will be more. When I put it up for winter I'll look into play and leverage ratio.Moving the front cable point in an inch might be the answer, even though it will slow down the steering , effort will be less. Might work ,or not ,but won't hurt to try.

yeah ...i thought he meant play on the handle bars not the full steering system
