Comparing the FZ and FX Models

Does anyone else find it interesting that Yamaha has two models (FX and FZ) that are so similar and even stranger that they bring out a new hull (FZ) after introducing the all new FX SHO. R&D on a new hull is expensive, as is maintaining production and inventory on two ski's that are so similar.

This is only an inquisitive mind wondering why. I have already ordered the FZ because of the positive feedback on this board, but, for the typical buyer these ski's appear very similar. If anyone has the 09 brochure the only discernible difference in the spec's is the telescoping handle bars. If I didn't read the FZ details on this board I would probably not have bought the FZ. I can honestly say this board has done a better job of promoting Yamaha than their own marketing department.

The SHO isn't all new. They took their 3-4yr old FX hull and stuffed the 1.8L s/c 4-stroke in it.

IDK how a "regular" buyer would be able to decide between a FZS and SHO...

True that, guess looks and i guess the lil top end speed the FZ's have over the SHO's.

Well said, it is true that the hull that the powerful 1.8L Supercharged engine is stuffed into is 4 years old and I guess Yamaha did it to give some relief to the yammi guys who were waiting for that supercharged engine, but they were probably smart to release the FZ series a year later. I think FZ series are going to be a dominant ski on and off the race course. Time should tell.
