couple of questions
I got his waverunner couple of days ago and has a hard time starting it seems. I turn it over and over but seem like it doesn't want to start up. It had B8es plugs in and it needed the BR8ES so I fig I would change then to start. I did a compression test it good 120/130. Spark seems alot better with new plugs. So now I am going to clean the carbs to see if that would be it. the guy said it hasn't started for a year or so. I am also thinking about replacing all Fuel and oil lines. What would you be your going at this am I doing it right?
PS: its a 99 gp800 with 141hrs

while you have the carbs off ditch the choke plates and go with a primer.

2 carb rebuild kits and a filter and you should be fine, empty of the tank if the fuel is been sitting in their, the lines should be fine, if anything runs some fuel through them into a spare can and just flush them out, or change the filter get it running good and after an hour just put another clean filter on. Also dont forget to make sure the tiny filter screen thats in the middle of the carb body gets changed as well, that is a highly overlooked item that can ruin your engine!

I was also debating on puting new pistons in and wave eater clips. I heard the gp800 need riding plates and intake is that true? Also will the primer kit work alot better then the choke?

Welcome to the boards!
....heres a few items to take care of on your ski:
1. Remove the chokes and replace them with a Primer kit... this will make it effortless to start after sitting or storage.
2. Block off the oil injection and start Pre-Mixing...it is much safer as the factory oil injection is known to fail.
3. lubricate and clean the Adjustable Trim and Steering cables... they usually will get stuck after years of neglect/abuse...especially if this is a saltwater ski..
4. rebuild the carbs ASAP!!...this should need no explination.

I'd bet almost every 2 stroke ski will start easier with a primer vs the choke alone. The GP800R hull is just as responsive as the 12/130's IMO so I'm certain it would benifit from a ride plate.
