    89-91 SP question

My friend bought a used sea-doo. I've done some work on my polaris and stopped by to check out his ski. It had 2 stroke oil sitting in the bottom of the haul. The ski had been sitting for 2 years and the oil line from the tank seemed to be leaking slighly.

What kind of oil is used in the crank case?

Trying to figure out if it all came from the oil tank, or if the crank case drained somehow. Any clues or suggestions on things to check?

2 strokes use oil that is mixed with fuel to lube the crank. Eithere by premixing or oil injectors. There's no oil in the crank like in a car. So your leak is from the tank.

    Oil Type

Can you run the TC-W3 rated stuff from walmart in this ski? I read somewhere else that some Sea Doo's run a different type of 2 stroke oil. Anyone have any info on this?

DO NOT USE TCW3 in a Seadoo. It does not have the lubricating qualities needed. Use a low ash TCW. They do sell this at WalMart as qwiksilver PWC oil. I believe this is in a grey bottle.

Low ash 2-stroke oil is more a necessity in the RAVE valve motors, as ash deposits can cause them to stick, its not as much a concern in the older Doos.

    UPDATE

We redid most all of the lines today. Still have one set of oil lines an oil filter to replace. I've attached pictures of the pickup lines inside the fuel tank. They were falling apart. We also took out the tank and cleaned it out as it had nasty black gunk in the bottom of the tank.

Picture's of the rear ski has three lines coming off the back. The one furthest to the right was connected to the piece in the rear, but not connected anywhere on the other end??? Is that line supposed to just sit in the bottom of the haul?

    UPDATE

The carb looked nasty on the top so we cleaned it. Decided to check the diaphgram and took the carb off. It was still flexible/soft and wasn't torn so we put it back in after using carb cleaner to blow out the jets. Everything else in the carb looked good without corrostion. Put it back on with new gaskets.

I believe the hose is a vent for the battery. It may be for the fuel tank but I think that is in the front up by the handle bars under the front compartment lid, right?

Yes the over heat sensor is between the plugs.

    The hose should be replaced.
