    24 hours in Miami...

I will be passing through Miami later this week, arriving early afternoon, flying out the next day after lunchtime.

Staying downtown a couple of blocks inland from the Bayfront Park. Hope that is a decent area to be walking around in.

Any suggestions for places to eat, or things to do?

I don't know anyone in the area, and haven't spent much time in Miami before, other than passing through.

A little vacation travel, this time.

Good timing I think - the temperatures here have really dropped, and today I saw the first snow flickering down, with a stiff breeze. Overnight temperatures here will be below freezing (just)...

I have been down the Florida Keys, and spent some time around Daytona and inland, but not around downtown Miami (yet).

As the crow flies about 200 miles from Miami - Sarasota is on the other side of Florida from Miami.

Some day I hope to have the opportunity to travel a portion of the East coast's extensive intracoastal waterway (which runs around part of the Caribbean too) - something the California coast doesn't have. Farther north the Canadian west coast has the Inside Passage (another place I want to explore).

My Spanish is near zero, I will admit.

Bayfront is a nice place, but take a cab to "the Grove" (Coconut grove). Much nicer with better restaurants. Or head out to south beach. Even better. Just be careful which beach (it goes by Street there) you go to. Last I was there in the 90's. 5th to 10th were family , 11-17th streets were where all the Brazillians go topless and above 17th street was where all the guys looking for guys go.

Exactly when will you be here? What flight are you taking to Freeport? I'm flying there on Sunday afternoon.

You can go to "Bayside" which is a waterfront development with shops, food and entertainment.
