Which d plate do you have?

I am trying to determine if there is any difference in the d-plates (R&D or Riva)? I have the R&D plate in my ski, but was told that I need to change to the Riva plate. What is the difference? Does it make a difference which ski you have? Thanks.

The R&D has a smaller opening allowing for more rpms and more top end. The Riva Plate, however is still made by R&D, but has a larger opening not allowing for as much backpressure.

Riva Plate - Good for bottom end/hole shot only
R&D- Good for a slightly better top end/ and rpm (Just a little though)

    hope that this helps

One thing ive allways wondered - What would happen if one ground out the other 1/2 circle on the d-plate or made a spacer? I know the d-plate is in place to maintain back pressure. Ive ran automobile engines with manifolds disconnected and replaced cat. cov. with strait pipes without any problems (just really really loud) reducing backpressure increases air flow so you should have to increase your fuel supply? i dunno, might be a stupid question- maybe its just something common i havent heard of, i was just curious

i am using the R&D D-Plate on a 1300cc Ported motor (Fixin to be 1400 with the same plate). I have blackjack carbs (48mm). Milled Stock head (160psi) and Free Flow. No Jetworks.

NO GO! A two stroke motor NEEDS!!! the back presure. The back presure is what helps keep the fuel in the cyilder. With out any back presure your RMPs will drop HUGE, as your ski losses lots of unburned gas out the pipe. That is the need for the d-plate! You also run the risk of the gas burning in the exhaust pipe. That is also known as detination. (Very bad for your ski!!!)

Otherwise everyone would just remove the cat all together.

I have R&D D plate and free flow.
Hi John, this is not what I expected. No laughing, but I just bought a Riva D plate on ebay to replace my R&D D plate.

What about no free flow? Any idea what the effect of adding a free flow on a ported 1300 motor is?
