    SLT750 Issue

    Greetings from deepest darkest Africa,

I am hoping that maybe somebody can shed light on this problem I have.

Last week I took the ski down to our local lake.It had been standing for the winter...summer now....It started up fine and ran well for half an hour or so and then just bogged down.....low revs it was fine but when you cracked the throttle it would just bog down. Eventually I had to ride it with the choke on to get it back to shore.
I got home and pulled the carbs and then the reed valves thinking that it may be something there. On two of the three reed cages the reed petals are split and burned.
I have not opened the carbs yet.
Any ideas what else it could be?

    Thanks
    Mark

    Welcome to the Hulk.

Check cylinder compression, and piston top condition. Sounds like the reeds have been damaged by combustion blow back, possibly from a holed piston (lean burn).

What procedures did you do to prepare it for storage?
    Was the gasoline stabilized?
    Engine fogged?

When were the carburetors last cleaned and serviced?
Have the fuel hoses ever been replaced with new?

1992-1998 Polaris Service manual can be found here.

    Hi,
Thanks for the replies and the welcome.

When winter came I drained the fuel and sprayed some q20 into the cylinders and covered the machine.

The carbs have not been done since I had the machine.Have not replaced the fuel lines either

I will be opening the heads this week-end.Will let you know what the outcome is.

    Thanks

p.s. any other ideas or things to look at would be appreciated

    Greetings,

I had a chance to take the heads off the motor this week-end. No probs with the pistons, just a carbon layer on the top of them. No lateral movement (side to side in the barrel). So what I am planning now is to clean the pistons and heads, put new gaskets on and torque the heads up. Then check compression (should have done that before opening them..grrr) I have ordered new reed valves. So while I wait for them I will do the carbs now.

    Keep ya posted.

Oh yes listen, under the ski by the intake grate is the little sensor for the MFD, you know , where the speed is picked up etc. Should the hole be facing the front of the ski or the back of the ski? Reason being when we ride it the speedo shows numbers at idle etc but the moment you pull off it shows zero ?????

    Hole faces forward.

Have you looked into a triple outlet fuel pump as well?

    Maybe new fuel hoses too.

And be sure to clean/inspect the fuel shut off valve if not replace it.

These are a few things that need to be addressed with a ski of that age.

I'd also like to say WELCOME to the Green Hulk Forums!!
    Hole goes forward.
Remove the hose and see if you can blow through it.
Chances are it or the pitot (item on the bottom of the hull) are plugged with debris.

Thanks guys...mine is facing backwards ..hence the speed showing ZERO I guess...lol.

The only issue with getting all these cool bits is that down here in South Africa it is really difficult to get hold of them and if we can they come at a serious premium price........unless you know of someone who would be prepared to ship them out to me ???

I'm sure if you paid a member they can ship them for you.

I also know Randy at Watcon ships world wide, offers tech support and has some of the best stories you'll ever hear. He HAS been there and done that.
