when you put he pumpshoe all the back to the transemplate do you bounce?

This is a pretty good read
I think it has to be recessed but I would never take material off of the top of the shoe to do it. As long as it is not low I think its ok.

when i did mine i torqued it to spec but it came out slightly off balance ( as in not square, at least not perfect anyway) so be careful when you do it.
I think Ben Herman has a few tricks up his sleeve from what i can gather, perhaps he may chip in some tips here.

Mount & seal the transom plate first.
you want a nickle to fit between the mounting bolts as in duke's picture. make sure it's all the way back and square to the transom plate. I used some c clamps to hold mine. you may need to elongate the holes in the shoe to get it back all the way.
Measure and check fitment dry a few times. Then glue the bitch in
