Can anybody tell me the age of this ski? I just got it working and want to make sure I have the right age before picking up some more parts for it.

The last 2 digits of the VIN# tell the year it was made.

That sucks. It is pre 84ish due to the exhaust but other then that you will just have to guess.

should be a second hull id under the battery

The one under the battery is gone too, no idea why the guy decided to remove them. I'm looking through the diagrams on RivaYamaha to see if I can pinpoint the exact age. If I use the stableizers from a 1989 550, do you think it would help on the 440? Having a terrible time learning to turn, I guess I lean too far, and end up in the drink, almost deaf from taking off on my knees with the above water exhaust (and have no skin left on them either, new hydroturf is next on the list)

there are a bunch of tricks to learn.

    keep your knees bent
inside foot goes forward (ie turning left, left foot forward)
only on knees until moving then pop up
drag the inside foot in water to make quick turn
diving (need a good bilge pump)
    get a quick turn plate
handle pole spring if you ride long periods
    ride/lean forward to plane quicker

pics of engine??? they changes exhaust a couple times during the early years

Here are pictures of the engine. I added the valve to the cooling pipes as I flooded the block and crankcase the first time i rebuilt it, so had to break it back down. Not letting that happen again. Another issue i'm having is that I can either get it to idle fast or not at all out of water, it is okayish in water but cuts out sometimes when i fall off.
