I use BOTH together and they work fine for me...I am about 275lbs...I hit 69.0 mph on the GPS this week after riging for 2 hours...when my fuel was getting low.

This configuration does not stay hooked up as well as just the plate alone (in rough open water) but I am going to use BOTH as my winter set-up (I ride 12 months of the year)...because the lake is relatively smooth in winter....lot fewer boats out.

I think the word THEY DONT WORK is incorrect

should be they wont suit all riding conditions, yes they work , but only on flat water,
Or if you like poor hookup in rough and a higher nose for playing around

    basicly wont suit everbodies tastes

I ran the Riva plate/2* combo for a long time. It'l haull ass but like Warren said, it ain't for everybody
When it gets rough, this is not the best combo for hookup.
On smoother water, it's the fastest plate setup out there.
I switched to the R&D plate with a 1* wedge. It's not as fast on smooth water but it hooks up much better in the rough.

the riva plate and the 2*wedge work good for me but in the rough water it is a little easier to get the ski to unhook.the wedge made for a dryer ride.i think it is a decent compromise since it got me about 2 mph with the combo.
