Wanted 6 degree wedge and performance intake grate for MSX150

Looking to imprive the MSX150. the waters i ride in are usually choppy. I beleive a 6 degree wedge and a R&D 650 (or similsr ) will make me happy.

    Thanks Guys

What do you want to improve/change about the ride?

More top speed, or better rough water handling or ride?

Have you changed the intake grate from stock yet?
In rough water, the intake grate can make a big difference.
Apparently one of the best MSX intake grates overall is the Watcon modified Jet Dynamics intake grate.

    Hi K447

They were offering test rides on the new RXP255 this weekend an i was impressed with the way it worked in the chop (it had trim and performance intake grate as standard) After what i had read on Greenhulk i thought a combination of both might improve the ride in the chop on mine. Top speed is not what i am chasing just a nice ride when it is a little rougher. (I do still like top spreed!)
Any suggestions (short of purchasing the Seadoo) are much appreciated.

    Thankyou

You want to improve hookup and forward thrust in rough water - that is, reduce the percentage of time the jet pump is pumping air instead of water?

If you are talking about smoothing out the ride itself - less bouncing on the waves, an easier ride for the rider, that is a different thing.

K447, I should come clean, I have two MSX150's i like going flat out and yes the pump does need to stay hooked up better than it does. I get that surging feeling as it lands and leaves the water. What do you recomend for this. My wife is a little less adventurous a little less speed amd the waves she jumps are small for her a softer ride would suit her.
I am only new to this sport and both mature riders not full on adrenaline junkies.

    Thanks again for you replies

I have an aluminum TDR waterbox. I had it on my MSX110 and sold it without giving it to the guy, forgot. Anyways looking to get about $100 out of it. It has no baffles at all. Helps cut down on turbo lag.

A more aggressive intake grate will help keep the jet pump hooked to the rough water.

Either the R&D Aquavein 650 or 750SL grates will help, or if the $200 price is OK with you can get the Watcon modified JD grate. That is the grate that Pirate33 used to win his class in the offshore LB2CAT race earlier this year. That boat has 200+HP, and some other tweaks.
Edit: Apparently I was mistaken, and Pirate did test a different version of the JD grate, but has not (yet) raced with it.

Put the grates on both your MSX hulls, as even when riding less aggressively in rough water, keeping the intake hooked up makes the ride seem more 'controlled', with less fore and aft 'pulsing'.

Lifting the nose up with a six degree nozzle wedge might get you more top speed, but it might also reduce the ride quality.

Do you ride the majority of the time in the Ocean? for the type of riding you do it sounds like the R&D would be good for you with the stock 4 degree wedge
KK47 is correct I ran the R&D with a 2 degree wedge for the Catalina race due to not having the JD with the Randy mods yet to test. The R&D on the left and the JD on the right which was "cleaned up" a bit but is now back with Randy for some of his mods
