1996 SLX overhaul
What's up everybody. This winter I have decided to rebuild my 1996 SLX. All that I know right now is that the rear rod, bearings, jug and head are damaged. I know that this is probably going to lead to more things once I get the motor out and apart. My ultimate goal would be to put a 1996 900 motor into but I do believe that this will be a bigger project. I am also throwing around the idea of painting the ski, but we will see how the motor goes first and then based on time/money we will see what else I can do. This will be my first engine ovehaul I will be doing by myself. I helped my dad rebuild out 1994 SL750 about 10 years ago but I mainly just observed and didn't do a whole lot. I know I have a good resource with him and with everybody on this site so I am not to worried about getting my questions answered. Anyway last night I completed the first stage of the project which was to build a stand so that I can work easily on the ski and wheel it around the shop when I need to get it out of the way. I made it out of wood I had at the shop and then put 300Lbs casters on the bottom so it should be good to go. The only thing I have left to do is put carpet on the bunks. I know that everybody here likes pics so I have attached a few for you viewing pleasures. I somehow forgot to take a pic of the final product though so I will be sure to get one. Thanks to everybody that has already helped with some of my questions and I will be sure to keep updated this post as the project progresses.
