Turbo - how much is allowable boost?

I AM GOING TO PUT A TURBO WITH HEADERS ON MY SKI. I AM LOOKING AT PURCHASING A GARRETT TURBOCHARGER WITH UP TO 30LBS OF BOOST - 50 A/R Compressor, .63A/R Turbine . WHAT IS THE MAX BOOST FOR A 4-TEC ENG?

You might want to search on boost and when head gaskets fail. It seems that most have problems are at 16-lbs and above. There is a thread about how the block guard reduces head gasket failures... Ron

I hear the intake manifold comes apart somewhere around 23 psi.

Right now it appears 15-16psi is the most these motors can reliably handle. Some people are running low 20's but lots of problems with head gaskets and intake manifolds are happening.

Do not try to run high RPM and big boost. Buy the best valves money can buy.

From what I've seen and heard... More boost...no cam ...it will take the boost but not in a high rpm application...8700 will last a season...8800 will last half a season...9000 don't test it very long

What might work and last reasonalbly LONG...8300-400 rpm Ferrea or enconel valves with springs that are CHECKED for rebound and .010 shims under them and NO CAM with 20 lbs of boost. YOU WILL NEED some race gas that is NOT oxygenated. IMO this will give you the grunt you want and the best chance of lasting a season W/O having buckets of bolts and broken blocks laying around.
