Need your input on a possible purchase
Got a line on a 03' GTX SC
Here is what he is putting into the deal, it is all in the package:
- 03' Yellow GTX SC
- cover
- 4 matching lifejackets
- 60' tube rope
- 4 person Big Bertha tube
- Optional storage bin
- Tidal water single place aluminum trailer 03'
He tells me he paid $12,175 back in 03' for everything.
He wants $9,000
Now for the other part of the story.
He is a grandfather, bought the ski for the near grown up grandkids. Under 50 hours on it, and it was in the shop after someone ran it aground and hit some rocks. The whole bottom was tore out so it was replaced (So he says) under insurance.
He is really pissed at the whole situation, tha the kids are not taking care of this machine. He wants to sell it.
Help me arrive at a much lower price with some reasoning.
Things i can think of are:
- Since he had the bottom of the hull replaced, this will show up on a dealers computer, and someone buying the ski will wonder what else they did to the ski
- 03' supercharger issues (help me with this one)
- ?
- ?
I would buy it right now if he would take +-$6,000-$6,500.
What is the top end of a really STEAL of a deal?
Help me chisel this thing down from $9k

$6000 maybe $9000 NO WAY!!!
Also, 03's had plastic pumps which had plenty of problems.

I agree with Jerry, plus the bottom.....you don't know how bad it was and/or if it was fixed right. Also if they ran it aground that means it was run in shallow water, I would take a close look at the inside of the pump/impeller.

The 03 pumps were made from plastic and would deform causing problems. Some pumps were replaced under warranty in 04 while many others were not.
Also the 03 used metal washers in the sc clutch and there were problems associated with this. That is why they went to ceramic washers in 04. (but we are still having problems with the ceramic)

In my opinion I wouldn't touch that ski with a ten foot pole ! Steer clear of anything that has been involved in a wreck, and abused besides, be it a car, truck or boat. You are only buying someone elses headache.

I was looking for a ski for the wife, that might get 20 hours on it a year.......But I wanted a 4 stroker that has some zip, all for real cheap. As we know this rarely works out........
Thanks guys

You would be better off getting a new one.
However, if you insist on getting an 03 for $9000, I've got one that's never been wrecked, have had absolutely no problems with that I would sell to you for $8500! lol
