    Steering stopped working

I pulled my SL750 out of storage for some photos so I can sell it
and the steering isn't working. It moves a few mm in either way
and has a "clunk" type of sound. I disconnected the bars, they're
not the problem. I disconnected the cone, that's not the problem.
Removing the cable looks like it could be a nasty procedure since
I can't easily reach the nuts to disconnect it under the bars...

Does this problem sound familiar at all?

The boat's not perfect, maybe I'll just sell as a parts boat...

Have you tried spraying a little lube into the cable jacket? Maybe she's just froze.

Definitely not high traffic, but I'm part to blame since
I have never really done anything to promote it. I got
a PM from someone who wanted to buy it, but I'm not
sure of their intentions, nor how much $$ they wanted
to offer, so I haven't followed through.

    Visit more often!

Yeah, I put some on both ends. No immediate difference,
but I will give it some time to sink in. Although the way it
"clunks" when I try to turn the bars gives me the feeling it
    is jammed or something?

Lift the hood and try turning the H bars. See if something is stopping the rod from retracting.

Remove the cable from the steering nozzle and try pushing it in by hand. It should move freely.

If it's not hitting at the bars, or at the nozzle, then it's got to be a kinked cable.

Yeah, I disconnected it from the handlebars and the nozzle
and it still doesn't budge. Definitely something wrong, so I
suppose I need to find out how to pull the sucker out now.

How to reach the bolts under the steering cowl seems like
the biggest pain in the butt. Hopefully I can reach w/o the
need to start disassembling the handlebar cowling area...

I was able to get a small set of channel locks into the cowl to hold the nut while I turned the nut on top of the cowl. You can do it!
I have a cable thats in good shape from a 95 650 if ya need it. $25 shipped.

Ok, I was able to get it removed. Like all watercraft work,
all it takes is some contorting, good tools and patience.

The "clunk" that was referring to, now upon close listening,
appears to simply be the steering cable hitting the sides of
the sheath when it fails to be able to pull/push properly.

Let me ask this. On each end there's a long "barrel" that I
assume is independent of the steering cable going through.
On the handle bar side, it moves freely. On the nozzle side,
it's VERY corroded and appears to be one with the steering
cable. With a couple locking pliers and lubricant I was able
to get them to turn independently, but it still won't work in
a lengthwise motion (obviously the direction it needs to go).
Sorry if I'm butchering the terms and descriptions.

I think I may have to take you up on that. Is it the same on
the ends as the 750? I will drop you a PM. I want to verify I
cannot get my "broken" loose, but so far it's not looking good.
