    putting a tachometer into a 97 spx

The one thing that always bugged me is the lack of a tachometer in my 97 spx. If i was to get one, is there a spot for it to plug in(if i went with one from bombardier) , or would this have to be wired in? Thanks in advance.

Put it between the two gauges( Trim and Gas)
    That's where I placed mine.

    Post Aftermarket Digital Tach Tachometer

Over OEM, I prefer an aftermarket digital tach. they all work by reading inductance by a wire that wraps around one of the spark plug wires that read spark pulse. Super Easy to install.
Most to all of the Yamaha GPR hobbyists use the PET-2100 digital Tach. Its great for tuning. For just regular pleasure riding and the need for RPM indication, the tiny Tach works very well.

There is theStandard Tiny-Tach. Very inexpensive and easy to install. Less than 45.00 shipped

Tiny Tach also makes a faster updating version called the Commercial Tiny Tach. Less than 70.00 shipped

Or, You can also get a faster updating digital Tach called the Pet-2100-DX. About 200.00 with Green Hulk Coupon Code

Then there is the PET-2500 top of the line Pet tach. About 360.00 shipped using the Green Hulk Coupon Code

The online manual(s) for all the PET Tachs are also found here on the forum

Here is how i mounted mine on my 96. On my girl's 97xp, i took the tach from a 2002xp and wired it into the factory mpem, was very easy, took less than an hour. I mounted the tach in place of the large vts guage, and installed a small vts guage where the guage plug is. Pic below.
