    Engine Swap

I currently own a 2004 rxp with a blown engine. Can I drop in a 2007 and use the 2004 ECU with no other modifications? Thanks!

Unfortunatly no, the crank trigger for the engines has changed between the two years, and other sensor positions may have changed too

Hopefully some others will chime in, but IIRC the 2004-2005 are compatible, and the 2006-2007 are compatible... Ron

Thanks for the replies. Almost pulled the trigger on a 2007 with 20 hours.

Actually, it was a 2006. Guess that will not work either.

Has anyone put a 2006+ motor into a 2004-05 boat? What needs to be changed? Just the ECU?

The entire wiring was changed 06+. 06 is its own animal, updated wiring, but has an mpem, like the 04-05. Then in 07-08s they redid the wiring again, and ditched the mpem all together. But mainly on all 06+ engines the crank pickup pin was moved (for no other reason than to mess with us, from what I can tell, any advantage??). All you have to do is move the pin.

In order to run an 04-05 engine in an 06+ boat you have to drill the crank, and move the crank sensor pickup pin to the location it is at on an 06+ crank. The heads are slightly different also, so some tubes may need to me moved.

Bottom line, you can do it, but you have to modify or change the crank, so its not exactly drop it.

How hard is it to drop an 07 motor into a 04 hull and then run 07 wiring?

So Boostaholic, an 06 into an 04 does not sound too complicated?? Is relocating the pin on the 06 a project?
