I used a pry bar to gently apply pressure (used some scrap wood as the pivot point on the pry bar as not to damage anything) and with a scalpel I cut away the 5200.

Pry it from several directions and slice the 5200 as much as you can.

    Than it just popped off.

run a razor blade through the 5200 all along the sides of the shoe (where the seal is next to the hull) This will break some of the tension that is in there. Then do a boris says or even use a long flat head screwdriver. But don't use the hull itself to pry against--you will end up with a cracked hull.

Good luck on this and post some pics if you get a chance.

I have an '01 and did have the shoe pull out (one of the rare ones in that year).
When it happened all I could manage was 61.9mph (down from 68's) and a bunch of water came in.

After Yamaha fixed it the hull was bone dry.

I just redid both my shoes. The best way I found to remove them is to drive a long screw driver between the transom plate and shoe. Just pops off that way.

I use Jays method, but I do it in a closed-sound proof environment so the neighbors cant hear me cussing profanity at the top of my lungs.
