97.5 GSX limited question
I have a 97.5 gsxl that I am building a silver motor for. My question is can the sound surpression between the waterbox and exit be done away with or does it need to be there. If I can do away with what hose can I get to replace it with. Any help is great

You can get rid of it. Use the 98xpl hose and exhaust exit in place of it.
Also, if your interested I have an XO prop for that year ski if you want a performance impeller.

Do I have to move the exit to the rear or can I leave it where it is?

What other parts do you need beside the XPL crossover hose?
And...if you want to keep the same exit location...you could just cut the XPL hose at the last elbow, twist it 90 degrees, and add a coupling, so it will exit the side instead of the rear.

[quote=96XPSS;910063]You can fix your sending unit baffle by doing the repair at the top of this page. No sense buying another.

If you swap the exhaust outlet with a 90 degree unit from an RXP, it will help. I did that on my 99 GSXL...

Those pistons are expensive. Want a cheaper route with a great product? Go 1020 or 1040 BB with wiseco pistons. They cost much less and are in stock all the time. Those 1050 pistons are $200 a piece. You can buy 2 wisecos for that price.
Send your head to group K for them to open up the domes to accept the size you decide to go. Harry is pretty good at what he does and I went his route for reliability issues and it worked out great.
You can get the head gasket from cometics. They will make you a gasket, they actually have them premade. Wiseco probably has the gasket as well.
My 1020 Bigbore cost me $500 total to build. That was 4 years ago. Made the piston clearance .065 and the squish was around .062. Group K also adds a bleeder line on top of the head to get rid of the air bubbles so you don't have hot spots.
