    Starter or Seized Engine?

Checked out those skis I mentioned earlier, and the 97 GP760 won't start. The seller offered to take more $$ off the price, but I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into.

When the start button is pressed, a loud buzz is audible from the starter. I have no problem replacing the starter, but if the engine is seized, I'd be in a ton of trouble. How can I check that the engine still turns over? Can I reach the impeller through where the water "jets" out the back?

The seller thinks that the starter is at fault. He says that the ski did this a few times in the fall, but would start up after jostling the starter a few times. Don't know if I can trust him completely... would like to diagnose myself.

Any help? Going to pick them up tomorrow.

take plugs out, take shaft coupler cover off and turn by hand, may need stillsons or multi grips (rag between) to turn it but you will know if siezed.

    hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick response! Sounds like a great way to go about it. Unfortunately, I'm completely green when it comes to working on skis, so here comes a dumb question:

Where is the shaft coupler cover?

the shade tree way ..........(ony after you hook up a GOOD battery and try to start it )my gpr buzzes when its low and its not the buzzer its in the e-box....
    ok ready
use the extension from a socket set ,to push down on the pistons
you must try each hole a few times ,,,if its the pump you usally can get it (pistons and crank) to rock or rotate back and forth a verry little bit
if the motor is toast you will get no movement ....
^^^^^ALL THINGS HAVE EXEPTIONS -this is by no means the way or final word ,,,but it gives you (us) an idea of whats going on
How did you do last time you played dice are you do to win or loose????
cause your playing if you dont find out first ...SO PLEASE FIND OUT FIRST

Just trying to figure out exactly where this is so that I don't look ridiculous tomorrow. Is it between the impeller and the engine? Will I need a ratchet to take the cover off, or are you just talking about the seat cover?

Is that about where it is located?

    Thanks so much!!

Take of the seat and look down behind the engine, you will see a plastic cover that covers the driveshaft coupler

Great advice from everyone. I think I know what to look for. Really hoping that this is a starter issue only!

    where are you located?
Reason I ask, is maybe a member lives close by and can swing by and help you out ( use the 'this is my brother in law' routine)

    just a note:those arn't o/e stickers for a 97... (thou could be changed to exotic's style.)
check the title to the vin #s closely before buying,to prove its year ,nor is that a registration # for U.S. ski.

Could be alot of 'nothing' but CHECK ANYWAY!!!
