What Is Causeing My Over Heating Problem???

    I have a 03 seadoo with a supercharged 4-tec engine.
I have replaced the ride plate do to corrosion ate it up, and I have pulled off my water pump to check it out but found nothing unusual.
I am planing to take the cylinder head off to check the head gasket.

What happens is when i try to go fast it will set off a beeper and go into limp mode, then to get it back on I have to pull the key and put it back in, the start it, but i cant go fast, I want to try to just start it up while its cold and just take off, see how long it takes for the beeper to come on.

What are some things that cuase the engine to over heat?

Are you sure it's an overheat alarm? What code is displayed on the dash?

It will start with a P and be followed by 4 digits

    I second GH's opinion..
could just be exhaust overheat code as well, since you
say after you pull key it runs ok again.

Are you sure that the engine is overheating? Do you loose antifreeze? Have you checked the temperature of the antifreeze with a meat thermometer? Most times the engine goes into limp-mode is due to low oil pressure or high exhaust system temperature... Ron

I'm thinking it's more than likely a bad oil pressure sensor. It's very common for them to fail causing the exact symptoms he described.

I have also seen them do this with a week battery or charging system. They will turn over and start fine but anything more than half throttle it goes into limp mode.

True. 1 of the oil sensors wont throw a code either if I remember right.

I have a new oil pressure sensor that i installed, and I have a brand new battery.
How will I be able to tell if its a high exaust temp or hi engine temp?

I dont know the code but it will say HI_TEMP on the dash.

I assume it is full of coolant? If the rideplate was corroded so bad you had to replace it maybe you have a stuck thermostat or possibly something blocking the coolant passage in the rideplate( like packing nuts).
    Was the plate new?
Also, A head gasket will cause this exact same issue.
