no gains or losses really just the steel ring is hard on the o/d of the prop when the ski is under hard load the blades will flex a little which is why the plastic ring wears eventually were as with the steel ring the prop blades get worn out $$$

I have an 06 RXP and I have been running the solas impeller with the factory plastic wear ring. I have 220 hours on my ski and I am on my 4th wear ring. I don't think the plastic/nylon wear rings hold up well once you change out your impeller like I did.

The freezer method has always worked great for me. Search the threads and you will find the procedure. Basically pull your pump off, throw in freezer for about 30 minutes with new wear ring, old ring slides out by hand new one just pushes right in by hand.

I think I prefer steel after spending $50 bucks 4 times to replace the OEM ring. But one time the plastic ring did save my impeller when I sucked up a stick.

The steel ring may last a long time but it wears the edges of the prop down. The plastic 1 works fine for me and I can always flip it over and use it again in a pinch.
