    Question about leakdown test results

Did a leakdown test on my ski. Had 9% in all three cylinders. I could hear air coming from the crankcase and could feel the air coming out of the vent tube. I rotated the crank and did the test a few times on each cylinder. I noticed that if I was not exactly on top dead center of the compression stroke the leakdown rate was at 18% instead of 9%. Shouldn't both the intake and exhaust valves be closed at least 45 degrees before and after the compression stroke? If so, why would the above situation happen?

They must not be closed all the way according to the results you got. 9% is good on a leak down test
