    transom plate seal?

While looking at a SHO pump/transom parts list I noticed that yamaha now uses a rubber seal between the transom plate and the hull on SHO's to seal the transom plate to the hull! Wonder why the change instead of sealer as in the past? Noise, vibration or just a better way to seal. Just getting ready for my FZR dissassembly soon as it arives!

I cant count the times I have had a new or pretty new boat leak water at the transom seal.
