Mark Hahn 300 Pit Crew Competition

Mark Hahn 300 Memorial PWC Race 2009
    Lake Havasu, Arizona
    For immediate release
    January 10, 2009
Sea-Doo X-Team Pit Crew Contest is another PWC racing first for the Mark
    Hahn 300!
In it’s fifth year the longest PWC race in the world lays claim to yet another first-ever for the sport.
This year, with thanks to BRP, they will host the first ever “Sea-Doo X-Team Pit Crew Contest” as
a part of the most grueling personal watercraft race in the sport. This is appropriate as it is the only
such race where actual pitting takes place during the real time of competition. Akin to a NASCAR
race the competitors must refuel their boats numerous times during the grueling 300 miles of racing
on Lake Havasu. This refueling is complicated by regulations relating to environmental issues
requiring the boats to be removed completely from the water before fuel is introduced. This further
emphasizes the importance of all members of the race team more than any other PWC race. This race
can be won or lost by the pit crews.
Competing teams will start by launching their race boat at the race beach when directed with an
appropriately suited, registered rider onboard. With their trailer in the water and the boat one hundred
feet from it at the officials signal the time will start and the driver will bring the boat onto the trailer
in a safe and controlled manner, the pit crew will pull it out of the water past the twenty foot line at
which time they will add five gallons of fuel and change riders to a second (also entered) rider. They
will then re-launch the boat, and their time will stop when the rider has moved away under power
in a forward direction. There will be penalties assessed for any safety or environmental violations
observed. The team completing the tasks in the least elapsed time (after any penalties) will be the
    winner.
The winning team will be announced at the Mike Follmer Awards Banquet on Saturday night where
they will receive the Sea-Doo X-Team Pit Crew Contest trophy plus one hundred dollars in cash. It
is especially appropriate to recognize and reward the members of these pit crews for their very
important contributions to the success of any racer entered in this three hundred mile event.
Any team officially entered in the race may compete in the Sea-Doo X-Team Pit Crew Contest which
will be held on the race beach at Crazy Horse Campground on Friday, February 27, 2009, the day
before the race. Required race check in and registration will take place Friday at Walt’s Motorsports
& Marine in Lake Havasu City from noon until 6 pm and any team wishing to compete will notify
the DSM staff there at check in and receive a special pass to the race beach for Friday. The
competition will take place between 3 pm and 5 pm only so plan your arrivals in Lake Havasu City
accordingly. It should be noted that this is the only opportunity for any team to actually use the race
beach prior to Saturday’s race start, no practice or early set up at Crazy Horse is allowed.

    Question

In this competition,Will beach prep be allowed? As in fencing being placed down for traction? And is there a max # of pit crew allowed? Things that might want to be addressed before hand.

If you read it,It's not anything about racing a distance. But just a enter onto the trailer, remove ski from water, change riders, dump fuel(5 gals),back trailer into water, spin it and have the ski take off. The End

I think maybe the total of doing it 3 times and averaging the time would be the best test. One time fast,is just that, the luckest team, Averaging would show a consistant pit crew. Which is what this seems to be about awarding.
    Just my 2 cents worth
