    MSX 150 - Oil Change

My PWC is due for a service and i cant seem to locate exactly where the oil filter is... the manual clearly tells you what is involved in emptying the oil but the diagram showing where the Oil filter is not that helpful...

has anyone done their own oil change before that can help explain where i can locate where it is...

    Thanks...

Should have mentioned...some of the early MSX 150's have the reusable oil filter housing that gets a new paper filtering element.

Later, they made the filter a one piece (housing and filter element) spin-on unit...like your car.

Since some Polaris dealers still have the paper replacement elements...make sure that you purchase the one piece spin-on upgrade. That way, when you get yours off, you will have something to go back on. My first filter purchase, I was handed just the paper filter...only to find that my filter was the one-piece, and had to miss a great weekend of sun, waiting for my dealer to open up again!

    And welcome to GH!!!

My MSX150 has the cartridge style filter. Use a 1 1/16" socket with a wobble drive (you can not get a straight go at the filter) or a claw spanner. I have used both methods succesfully. The book says to suck oil out of the reserviour, I dont (I have removed it after the oil change and found it empty) although I do take my time between pumping sessions on the starter motor.

    Cheers

    You 'nailed' it, Kosh!

    I use a 1 1/16" crows foot...with a 3/8" extension.

I also turn the engine over...until the oil is out. I have 'rigged' up an extraction setup for the reserviour...but logic told me that there was no need to go to all of this trouble.

    Back at you...cheers!
