04 yamaha 800 2 stroke, good choice to buy?

Just need a heads up: 1.Trying to learn almost every single basic expierence from a jetski, is this the best choice? buy a 2004 2-stroke 800, could be sold for about 2000, has about 200 hours on it, used it all last summer ran pretty good, should i put money into it or look for a new one? 2.Whats the best thing/pllace to learn the basics(meaning extiorer/interior things) besides from a jetski itself?

-Any answers would be a huge start for me

What will you do with it we tend to make our toys go fast but some just like to be on the water and mobile.

my brother, owns the ski, suggests i should rebuild the engine, which is what im planning on doing. not trying to put in a racing condintion, but a condinition that it goes around 50 and still has some power in it

i have a 800 as well and love it
and it does depend on what you plan to use it for
top speed ,racing ,or a rec ski
but i would say get a compression test to see because i think its about time for a new top end
u should have around 120 in each cylinder if not then replace the top end which is pistons and rings

well in that case im pretty sure its a gpr800 correct?
it should go faster than 50 stock and if you want more the most simple upgrade is a impellar ,ride plate and intake grate. all together thats good for about 4 to 7 mph depending on the conditions of the water etc
and your brother is rite rebuild the top end for sure

yup thats the right one, using it for rec skiing tho...going to be on lake ontario most of the time..so in order to keep on track on this ski(had now almost half a season on it from last summer) just rebuild couple parts here and there before may hits? with the test?

i wouldnt bother with the compression test 200 hrs just buy new pistons and rings.
rebuild the carbs and then anything else like impellar ride plate is extra
