I have seen a couple of people that have switched there stock 800 waterbox to a yamaha gp760 waterbox. Why do this? does it help performance, sound, or both?

Only on a flat-top piston setup.

    And, welcome to GH!

why only on a flat top piston set up? stock setup is flat piston right? or is it considered a dome piston?

what makes the difference with a flat top piston and using the gp760 waterbox though? and a side question; if you are taking away the dome, the flats tops will lower compression right?

They use a special pent-cut domed head which makes a very violent combustion. The GP waterbox has low restriction, and allows this setup to rev quickly. I've tried one on my 920, didn't work. Domed setups need the backpresure to scavange properly.
