Thread: 12F upgrades?
01-20-2009, 02:34 PM #1
I'm a Yamaha guy and my friend has a Kawasaki 12F, I believe 2007.
He is looking for some cheap, yet effective upgrades to do. I know the Yami GP1300R inside and out, but no very little about the 12F.
He is looking for harder acceleration and improvements for rough water hook up, wave jumping, etc.

Worx grate for hook up....a swirl prop would be good for improved bottom and mid and a poosible top end gain but would probably stay the same.
A air intake kit ....and a plate for more top end.....but thats about it.
There is also a solas prop too which should be a good all around prop.

You could run the same set up that I do, intake, and exhaust, and then do the grate, the prop and the plate... The intake I built out of auto zone parts, 4 inch spectre filter 3 inch 90 degree elbow and a 3 inch silicone connector. The Exhaust I made out of a 2.5 inch of aluminum inter cooler tubing from supra sport. com I have pictures in my photo gallery. If you are looking for top speed then run a cut stock intake grate, you cut the center bar out and thin the others down. If you are handy with tools you could advance the timing like I did but I don't know for sure if it helped any, I don't have actual numbers yet.

yeah, with another rider and 3/4 tank of gas in 47 degree weather. that was taken before the timing advance and I am now turning 2 more small bars over 7k

Yeah, the 12f is my first ski so its been really nice and reliable, its got 150 hours on it and I'm pretty sure the impeller needs to be replaced, it has seen better days. But, for what it is and what I use it for (towing and cruising) it's a dam# good ski... not the fastest by any standards but just a great all around ski...

The interesting thing about the 12f is it has a higher compression ratio than the 15f and the same block, it just has a different crank, intake and throttle body assembly, so theoretically you could swap those things over and have a really high compression ratio stroker 12f but you would need dished pistons if you want to run pump gas because the comp ratio would be something stupid like 13 to 1
