you "may" want to think about picking up an SXR. IMO it is a much better race ski, than an older SJ. they are really coming down in price. ( i have both a SXR, and 03 SJ)

now, if you want to stay with your SJ, depending on the year, and your area, you may be able to race it in vintage. in our regin you can race a 2003 - older in vintage class.

OR the new SJ is supposed to handle very good.

you can put the tubbies on your ski, i am sure you will like the handling/performance gain. persoanlly, i have never liked the "rear" sponsons, ( like the worx, beach house type, etc). they give the tail, too much lift, and make it feel loose.

i would get with local guys in your area, and se what people are running, and what clases you have available.

    good luck!!

You may also want to look into the racing rules, I think most are limited to one set of sponsons (front or rear, not both)

Get a Kawi SXR and do limited mods and go race..it is a great ski to run CC with hardly anything done to it. Seriously this ski was made for CC just as it sits.

The older skis don't have the power or hull to compete against even a bone stock SXR. And I'm a Yamaha guy too!
